Operated by a mother and son team, Lo Scudo specializes in local dishes and is one of Soave’s more elegant spots to enjoy a fine meal. Since 1988, this one-time 16th-century abbey just out of Soave’s Porta Verona has housed a restaurant popular with locals and tourists for its classic dishes that showcase the finest seasonal products. The menu changes frequently and some of their most requested dishes include the risotto con rosmarino e Monte Veronese (rice with rosemary and Monte Veronese cheese) and canelloni ai carcofi e noci con fonduta di formaggi allo zafferano (pasta filled with artichokes and nuts with a saffron cheese sauce). For dessert, try their sfogliattine di mele con la salsa arancia (pastry with apples and an orange sauce). The indoor dining rooms are lovely (albeit small) with marble floors and a refined atmosphere, but if the weather permits, request a table al fresco where you can savor Chef Giovanni’s dishes.
